Description

In this episode, host Anya Ricketson explores science communication and ornithology with the help of guest Josiah Lavender, a fourth year Ecology major. Josiah and Anya chat about ways to understand how your audience impacts your writing, how to effectively incorporate photos into an article, and how to communicate science to the general public. Josiah also discusses how his fathers career as a journalist impacted his writing style and how getting the public involved in science can help conservation efforts. A link to Josiah’s article can be found here. Learn all about science communication on this episode of Red Penned.

Guest: Josiah Lavender

Josiah Lavender is a fourth year Ecology major. He grew up loving birds and nature and spent most of his free time outdoors, often exploring the woods near my home in the Georgia Piedmont. As his interest grew, he became increasingly passionate about wildlife conservation and now hopes to spend his career studying birds with the goal of informing management decisions to conserve bird populations.
